George Prothro, an educator and former managing editor of the Clovis News Journal in New Mexico, died on Jan. 28 from cancer. He was 62. "I wouldn't classify him as one of the greatest writers, but he knew a news story when he saw it and he would dig until he got it," Scott Fischer, a former colleague, said. In the final years of his life, Prothro taught accounting at Clovis Community College.
