Isobel Bennett, a pioneering Australian marine scientist, educator and author, died on Jan. 12. Cause of death was not released. She was 98. Bennett worked on the Great Barrier Reef between 1948 and 1970; it served as the focus of several of her books. One genus and five species of marine animals, a fellowship and a coral reef are all named in her honor.
