Russell J. Flanagan, a reporter for the Express-Times in Pennsylvania, died on Feb. 5 of a previously unknown heart condition. He was 33. Flanagan covered the courts and police beat since 2003 and helped write the newspaper's "Law and Order" blog.
Joe Fenley, the former managing editor of the Dayton Daily News in Ohio, died on Feb. 5. Cause of death was not released. He was 74. The old-fashioned newspaperman served as the paper's managing editor from 1976 until his retirement in 1988. He previously wrote for the Painesville Telegraph and Industry Week.
David George Oats, a former editor for The Queens Tribune and The Queens Courier in New York City, died on Feb. 5 from complications of an infection. He was 58. In his spare time, Oats served as president of the Flushing Meadows-Corona Park World's Fair Association.
